Inspirational Dance Art Workshop, Place: Botevgrad, Art mentor: Yordanka Marinova

Art workshop “INSPIRATIONAL DANCES” in the town of Botevgrad is led by the inspiring Roma teacher Yordanka Marinova, who has many years of experience in working with children and youth in the field of dance arts.
The art workshop “Inspiring Dances” in Botevgrad organizes training in folk dances, incl. Roma within 6 months, and during this period he also prepared a thematic performance, which included local folk dances in accordance with the local folklore traditions of the ethnic groups.

THEMATIC PROGRAM
TOPIC 1: Dance as a cultural phenomenon

  • Folkloric dances – what they are and how they arose;
  • Music and dance – addictions;
  • Basic steps;
  • Types of dance ensembles and formations;
  • Interweaving of Romani and Bulgarian folklore;
  • Folk and modern dances – similarities and differences;
  • Modern dance techniques;
  • Communicating with the audience;
  • The role of traditions in contemporary dance.

TOPIC 2: Ethno-dances

  • Nature and occurrence;
  • Characteristics;
  • Ethno-dances in different countries;
  • Ethno-dances in Bulgaria;
  • Bulgarian and Roma ethnography.

TOPIC 3: Preserving dance as a tradition

  • Dance as part of the cultural heritage of nations;
  • The importance of preserving traditional dances;
  • Methods of spreading folk and ethno-dances;
  • Passing on the traditions to the younger generations;
  • The social role of dance as an expression of folk values and ideals.

TOPIC 4: Choreography

  • What is choreography – basics and examples;
  • The idea behind the construction of a dance;
  • Choreographic composition;
  • The role of the choreographer;
  • Examples of dance choreographies in culture;
  • Steps in building a choreographic project.

TOPIC 5: The art of dance

  • Dance as art
  • Inspiration – what is it and how to work with it?
  • The artistry at the core of the choreography;
  • From idea to reality – how to build our ideas;
  • Dances inspired by different types of art and culture – myths, legends, books, visual arts, music;

TOPIC 6: Complementary factors in dance

  • The role and importance of clothing in dance;
  • The costume – a means of building images;
  • Stage layout;
  • Sound and light production.

TOPIC 7: Resources

  • Who should we contact for more information?
  • How to start doing music?
  • Examples of successful peer/fellow/local groups.

EXPECTED TRAINING RESULTS: Acquired basic knowledge in the field of dance; Skills to reproduce basic steps; Perception of dance as an art form for contact with audiences; Independent development of ideas for different types of projects (with a focus on dance); Awareness of the importance of traditional dance means; Knowledge of modern concepts and trends in the field of dance art; Communication skills with different audiences.
WORKING METHODS: Presentations, video and photo materials, practical classes; educational games; work in teams.
ACTIVITIES FOR THE WORKSHOP: 1) Learning basic steps of different types of folk dances /Bulgarian, Roma, etc./ 2) Turning a folk tale into a dance – conveying an idea through movement; 3) building a costume idea; 4) Development and implementation of a given idea – construction of an independent project; 5) Learning basic steps.
